CKM Advisors - Interview tips

At CKM, we know every candidate brings different skill sets, backgrounds, and personalities to the table. We are looking for new team members who are as excited about data and its potential as we are. We want to see that excitement, not make you nervous. Here is a bit on what to expect when you interview with us.

We want to get to know you. We want to make sure we can picture you as a colleague and that you will be happy as a part of our team. Enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion are all things that get us excited about a candidate. Tell us about your past experiences and why they are relevant. Tell us about your unique interests so you stand out as “the candidate who likes rock climbing” instead of “the candidate in the blue shirt.” Share with us what drives and inspires you.

We also want to know how you think. We want to see how you approach a problem and walk us through how your brain maneuvers it. Take a few minutes to think it through before you jump in. Make sure you start simple and go from there. We want to hear your high-level analysis but we also want to make sure you can understand the basics. Don’t be afraid to ask clarifying questions. Write down everything you are thinking and walk us through it…we are not mind readers. We want you to do well, so if you are getting off track we can help you find your way back. Make sure you synthesize your thoughts at the end. While we work with some very messy data, we like our solutions to be presented clearly and concisely.

DOs and DON’Ts

DO…arrive on time, you’ll feel more settled and it helps with a good first impression.

But DON’T…come unprepared. If you are in a rush you may forget important items: pen, paper, an extra copy of your resume.

DO…look professional. While a tux or ball gown is not necessary, a nice suit or dress will do wonders.

DON’T…be afraid to ask questions! It shows interest and it’s a great opportunity for you as well to make sure you understand what you are getting yourself into if an offer comes around.

DO…your homework. Practice with some of the basic fit and case questions that can be found on the internet as well as with your Career Services. Look us up to make sure you know about CKM and what we do.

DO…have a positive attitude—we don’t like complainers.

DO…get excited! We are looking forward to getting to know you better and sharing more about our firm. Good luck!
